Maple How To: Using the Organizer Features

The Organizer Feature (where you find Category, Sub-Category and Tags) is typically near the bottom of the page. Expand the view, the arrow should point upwards, so you can see the options.

Tips: Features with the ability to expand/collapse retain your most recent selection. For example, if you like to add Tags for Journal entries but not for Reflections, you can expand the Organizer for Journals and leave it collapsed for Reflections. (Handy!!)

Tip: You access Sub-Categories from the Category menu, because Sub-Categories are always associated with a Category.

You’re there!  Now you can manage all of the values for that feature at once.

Each of the Organizer Feature pages show you a list of your current values and a button to Add. (The name of the Add Button varies depending on the page you are on, ie. Add Tags.)

To Add from an Organizer Feature Page:

1. Click the Add Button

Tip: You can only create a Sub-Category from its Organizer page, but you can create new Categories directly in an entry.

2. Type in the name for the new item

3. Click Save Changes

You did it! Anything you add from the Organizer Pages will be visible in the lists you see on the different types of entry pages.

Other Capabilities on the Organizer Page:

The pages for each Organizer Feature also give you the ability to see and do other things. This is an example using the My Categories page. My Tags and My Sub-Categories work similarly.

Here’s what you can do:

My Categories Page

1. Add a Category – See directions above.

2. List of Current Values – Each of the current items for the feature are presented in their own tile. You can see the icon and the name in the upper left of the tile header.

3. Sub-Categories for the Category – Because Categories and Sub-Categories are hierarchical (like folders in your email) you can see how many Sub-Categories were created within the Category. To see a Sub-Category, or the list of entries with that value, click the button.

4. Item Count – This is how many things have been saved with this specific value. To see all of those items click the button.

Tip: Sub-Categories are not counted in the value for the Category.

5. Delete Button – This removes the value from Maple. Be careful – any entry that has this value will be impacted if you delete. (Maple gives you a chance to Undo if you clicked Delete too soon!)

6. View Button – Displays the value.

7. Edit Button – Displays the value and allows you make changes to it.

Tip: Any changes you make to an Organizer feature using the Edit button are carried through and shown anywhere that feature has been used. (For example if you have a Tag called “OK to Share” and you have used it on ten different entries, when you edit it to be “Good idea” it will change on your prior ten entries and for all future entries.)

That’s everything!  You’re a pro at managing in Maple but you can always Contact us directly is you still have questions.

Happy Mapling!
